If you have been to any of my previous seminars, you know that I am on a mission to get as many people as possible in rhythm with their light environment. Sun in the morning, no artificial at night (unless with ruby red blue blockers). We know that artificial light exposure in the evening leads to insulin resistance which likely leads to weight gain, but this is the first study I’ve seen where they put an actual poundage on it.
The study looked at 43,000 women aged 34-75 with an average age of mid 50s. They were followed for 5 years. The average gain of anyone who slept with light in the room or TV on was 11 pounds. That’s 2 pounds a year just from artificial light. I would argue that iPads and iPhones would do a similar thing.
The authors were quoted in saying, “"Humans are genetically adapted to a natural environment consisting of sunlight during the day and darkness at night," Jackson said. "Exposure to artificial light at night may alter hormones and other biological processes in ways that raise the risk of health conditions like obesity.""
So turn those lights off!
Pitch black.
Blue light blockers at night if you have to use tech, but start minimizing!
I know it’s hard, I struggle with this tremendously.
We can all improve together.
And hopefully now we can all lose weight together!
