There’s a developing story that a couple of really smart people found tucked away in a recent COVID data report out of the UK. It’s stating that if a person is “fully vaccinated” against COVID and then still get COVID, they do not mount as strong of an immune response (antibodies) than someone who is unvaccinated and gets COVID.
See below:
Interpretation (I’m not the best writer, so please have a little grace with me. Some of you have sent some rude and borderline angry responses back to me because I’m not explaining it clearly enough for some):
One of the things that many scientists and researchers have feared about the mass vaccination program is that the vaccine only gives the body protection against the “spike protein” part of the virus. This leaves a host vulnerable to other parts of the virus like the nucleocapsid. There is a much more in depth immunological explanation for why vaccinated people are still vulnerable to COVID, but that is above my pay-grade and yours :).
Unfortunately what this means is that vaccinated patients will only have limited antibody response to further viral mutations, whereas the naturally acquired population have a more comprehensive and total response to the current strains and future ones. Think a broader AND stronger total immune response.
There will be A LOT of interesting data that will unfold over the next couple of months. But for now, enjoy a great fall weekend and stay healthy!
So grateful for all the time and effort you put in to trying to keep us all healthy and informed.
